Merritt (Formerly RJ)
RJ’s story began in a place no cat should ever have to be. Found as a stray at an abandoned car wash, he was in very poor condition, underweight, struggling with a severe upper respiratory infection, and suffering from significant dental disease. At approximately eight years old, RJ had never known the comfort of a home or the security of being loved.
Fortunately, the kind couple who found him took him into their home and connected with Purrfect Haven Cat Rescue, ensuring he received the veterinary care he desperately needed.
RJ spent several months in foster care. As he healed, he showed the gentle, affectionate soul he had always been. Despite this, he faced an uphill battle: as a FIV+ senior cat with no teeth, he faced the kind of barriers that often leave cats like him overlooked.
Purrfect Seniors stepped in to giving him the visibility he needed and sponsor his adoption fee and ongoing care to promote his adoption. They knew all it would take was one compassionate person to open their heart and home to him.
In August, the right person finally came across RJ and took the time to learn about FIV, undeterred by the stigmas that often surround it. When she visited him in his foster home, RJ curled up in her lap, forming an instant bond. She knew that he was meant to be with her.
Today, RJ has a new name, “Merritt”, and a new life. He fills his home with love and joy, spending his days playing with toys, soaking up affection, and charming all who meet him.
