FAQs
Adoption Process
-
Purrfect Seniors partners with shelters to help senior cats find loving homes. To adopt a sponsored cat, follow these steps:
Find Your Match – Browse adoptable cats on our website or at partner shelters.
Learn About Sponsorship – Discuss the sponsorship program and what it covers.
Complete the Adoption Process – Follow the shelter’s application, screening, and approval process.
Finalize Sponsorship – Sign Purrfect Seniors’ Sponsorship Agreement for final approval.
-
Purrfect Seniors sponsors the medical care of senior cats and those with pre-existing conditions, making adoption more accessible by reducing financial barriers. Each sponsored cat has a customized Care and Coverage Plan detailing what is included in their sponsorship. Adopters can choose which eligible expenses they would like Purrfect Seniors to cover.
Sponsorship lasts for the lifetime of the cat but only covers the conditions outlined in the Care and Coverage Plan at the time of adoption. New medical conditions that arise after adoption are the adopter’s responsibility.
Purrfect Seniors covers eligible expenses directly whenever possible. We work with a network of approved locally owned veterinarians to ensure affordable care. You may be able to use your own veterinarian if they meet these requirements and are approved by Purrfect Seniors (See Logistics and Process for more information on veterinary care and sourcing).
-
No. Purrfect Seniors does not facilitate adoptions directly. We sponsor senior cats at partner shelters. Adoptions are handled entirely through the shelter where the cat is located.
-
Shelters will indicate which cats are sponsored by Purrfect Seniors. You can also check the “Adoptables” page on our website or contact the shelter or Purrfect Seniors for more details.
-
To qualify for sponsorship, adopters must:
Commit to providing a stable, loving home for a senior cat.
Complete the shelter’s adoption process and meet their requirements.
Understand what the sponsorship covers and what remains the adopter’s responsibility.
Sign Purrfect Seniors’ Sponsorship Agreement.
Medical Care & Coverage
-
Each cat has an individual Care and Coverage Plan based on its medical needs. Coverage may include:
Prescription medications.
Special dietary food for pre-existing conditions.
Long-term treatments (e.g., insulin for diabetic cats).
For details on a specific cat’s coverage, contact Purrfect Seniors at info@purrfectseniors.ca or call (519)-707-2655.
-
Purrfect Seniors does not cover anything outside the cat’s Care and Coverage Plan, including:
Routine veterinary visits, check-ups, or diagnostic tests.
New medical conditions that develop after adoption.
Emergency treatments or surgeries.
Our focus is removing the financial burden of medical care, which is often the biggest obstacle to adopting senior cats. Everyday costs like food, litter, and routine supplies remain the adopter’s responsibility, allowing us to help more cats in need.
-
No. Our sponsorship covers only what is included in the Care and Coverage Plan at the time of adoption. Any new conditions will be the adopter’s responsibility.
While the plan remains fixed, we encourage adopters to reach out if they need assistance navigating their cat’s care.
-
No. Emergency medical care is not covered under our sponsorship.
However, if your cat has a major medical emergency, we encourage you to notify us. While we cannot guarantee financial support, we may be able to assist with fundraising efforts.
-
Purrfect Seniors covers eligible expenses directly whenever possible.
If direct payment is unavailable, adopters must submit a reimbursement request with receipts. Reimbursements are processed within 30 days.
Please contact info@purrfectseniors.ca to request a reimbursement form.
Logistics & Process
-
While Purrfect Seniors has a list of reliable veterinarians to use, you may be able to use your own veterinarian, if they are approved by Purrfect Seniors.
Purrfect Seniors works with a network of approved, locally owned veterinarians to ensure affordable care and direct billing. Vets that do not meet these requirements may not be approved.
-
If you wish to use a veterinarian outside our approved network, contact us with their details. We will assess whether they meet our affordability and service standards before approving coverage.
-
Medications and prescription food must be obtained through an approved veterinarian or veterinary supplier.
In some cases, Purrfect Seniors may arrange for direct shipments to adopters, depending on the cat’s needs and available suppliers. Contact us for more details.
-
Yes, but you must inform Purrfect Seniors in advance. We will work with you to approve a new veterinarian within our network or find an alternative provider.
Commitment & Expectations
-
Adopters must agree to the terms outlined in our Sponsorship Agreement, which ensures the best care for their senior cat. This includes:
Adhering to both Purrfect Seniors’ Sponsorship Agreement and the shelter’s adoption agreement.
Cooperating with wellness checks.
Providing a safe and loving home.
-
To ensure the well-being of our senior cats and to support adopters, scheduled wellness checks (either in person or virtually) are a part of our Sponsorship Agreement. They help us ensure the best care for the cat and provide adopters with additional support when needed.
These check-ins are scheduled with the adopter and provide an opportunity to address any concerns, offer guidance, and ensure the cat is thriving in its new home. During a wellness check, we will check on the cat’s overall well-being, answer any questions the adopter may have, and provide any necessary support. If the adopter agrees, we may also use this time to gather updates and stories about the cat’s life in its new home, which can be shared to inspire future adopters.
-
Yes, as part of our Sponsorship Agreement, adopters are required to provide periodic updates about their cat’s health and notify Purrfect Seniors of any major medical changes or emergencies.
We also ask adopters to inform us when the cat passes away.
