Bunny

Bunny, an 18-year-old Abyssinian born in 2008, was deeply loved and exceptionally well cared for throughout his life. Sadly, in the spring of 2026, his owner had to move into long-term care and could no longer keep him. Faced with an uncertain future, Bunny was welcomed into the care of SALT Rescue.

Despite his age, Bunny amazed the veterinary team with how healthy he was. His bloodwork did reveal early kidney disease, so he was started on a prescription kidney diet to help keep him healthy.

SALT Rescue reached out to Purrfect Seniors, and we immediately got to work sharing Bunny's story. The response from the community was nothing short of incredible. Within just a few hours, we received numerous adoption inquiries, while hundreds of people followed along, hoping this deserving senior would find the loving home he deserved. Bunny’s post on our Facebook received over 125,000 views.

One applicant, Ashley, stood out as the perfect match. She could offer Bunny exactly what he needed: a quiet, pet-free home where he would receive all the love and attention he could ask for. There was just one challenge—Ashley lived in North York, while Bunny was in London. Once again, our community stepped up. After we put out a call for help with transportation, offers poured in from people willing to volunteer their time to get Bunny safely to his new home. Dana generously made the trip the very next day, with no reason to travel other than to help this special senior boy begin his next chapter. It was a beautiful reminder of what can happen when a community comes together for one cat.

To help make Bunny's adoption possible, Purrfect Seniors sponsored his adoption fee and continues to sponsor his prescription kidney food, which costs over $300 each month. Covering these ongoing medical expenses removed a significant financial regarding adopting Bunny, allowing him to find a home sooner and reducing the worry of ongoing costs for his adopter.

Today, Bunny is thriving in his forever home with Ashley. She believes they were meant to find each other. Although she had seen countless adoptable cats over the years, something about Bunny's story spoke to her, and she knew she had to act. Now, this sweet super senior is spending his golden years exactly as every cat should: safe, loved, and cherished.

Bunny's story is proof that age should never be a barrier to adoption. With a little support and a compassionate community, senior cats can find the happy endings they deserve, no matter how old they are.
