Sadie (Formerly Breeze)
Breeze, a beautiful black and white longhair, was rescued in November 2023 by our friends at Real Trooper Cat Rescue. She was living in a cat colony with the role of matriarch. Breeze sadly faced challenges that made it harder for her to find a forever family. She was both FIV positive and shy—two traits that often carry unfair stigma in the rescue world. While FIV-positive cats can live long, happy lives, misconceptions about the condition often cause them to be overlooked. Breeze's quiet nature only added to the challenge, as she needed time and patience to show her sweet personality.
In the spring of 2026, Purrfect Seniors announced Breeze as one of our sponsored cats. We hoped that by covering her adoption fee and the cost of her annual vet visit and vaccinations, we could help her find the loving home she deserved. The response was amazing, with Breeze receiving multiple adoption applications!
Among those applications was one from Angela, who saw something special in Breeze. It quickly became clear that the match was meant to be. Breeze, who was now called Sadie, settled into her new home beautifully and became a beloved member of the family. Angela even reports that Sadie became the alpha and screamed whenever she was ready for more food. Sadie even befriended the family dog—a friendship nobody expected, especially considering she was noted to not like dogs!
Shortly after Sadie was adopted, her family brought her in for a routine bloodwork panel. This visit instead unexpectedly brought the sad news that Sadie was battling what appeared to be cancer. In fact, the doctors were surprised that she was still alive, given her condition. While the diagnosis was heartbreaking, Angela and her family faced it with remarkable positivity and compassion. They even felt that Sadie may have been sent to them by their late cat. They focused on making every day with Sadie count. She was surrounded by love, comfort, and the security of finally having a family of her own.
Sadly, Sadie passed away in June 2026. Purrfect Seniors sponsored the cost of her euthanasia so that finances were not something on her family’s mind in those moments. While Sadie’s time in her forever home was far shorter than anyone had hoped, her story is a reminder of why senior cat adoption matters so much. Because of Angela and her family, Breeze never spent her final months waiting to be adopted. She spent them exactly where she belonged—at home.
Sadie’s story is also evidence that cats who are shy, senior, and/or FIV-positive are every bit as deserving of love. Sometimes the most overlooked cats make the most extraordinary companions. Rest in peace, Sadie 💜
